PATNA: The Bihar Daily Passengers’ Association (BDPA) has demanded to run a superfast Janshatabdi Express train between Patna and Lucknow, to cater to the needs of people of the state capital.
Railways has not provided a superfast train connecting Patna to Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow on the pattern of Patna-Howrah and Patna-Ranchi Janshatabdi Express trains.
According to passengers’ body general secretary Shoaib Quraishi, patients in good number are visiting PGI Lucknow from Bihar to get better medical treatment.
“Besides, many students from the state are pursuing education and preparing for their careers in Lucknow these days. Thus they are facing immense hardships to reach Lucknow in absence of a superfast train connectivity,” he said.
Railways has been running a direct passenger train between Patliputra Junction and Lucknow (12529/12530) which leaves Patliputra Junction at 4.30pm and reaches Lucknow around 2.45am at odd hours in night.
The journey by this train is of more than 10 hours to cover a distance of about 539km, he said.
According to a Danapur railway official, there has been a huge traffic between Patna and Lucknow, yielding good revenue for railways.
Besides, there is a commercial viability to run a superfast train like Janshatabdi Express between Patna and Lucknow, he said. TNN
