GURGAON: Sirhaul councillor Virender Yadav was booked for abetment to suicide after the death of an autorickshaw driver, who alleged he was harassed and thrashed by the politician and his son. Yadav on Friday denied the accusation as baseless.
According to police,
Vikram Singh (35) drove an auto for a living, and used to rent out some properties he owned in Dundahera, where he lived.
On Wednesday, Singh is suspected to have consumed a poisonous substance in Udyog Vihar-3. He was found on the road by some passersby, who informed his family. He had died by the time they reached a private hospital in the city.
According to the FIR, Singh made a video hours before his death and said in the 40-second clip that the local councillor and Chotu had been harassing him.
Singh alleged Yadav had borrowed Rs 9.5 lakh from him, and Chotu, Yadav's son, another Rs 5 lakh, two years back. Neither returned the money, and when he asked for his dues, they thrashed him, he alleged.
Singh, a father of four, had asked his 11-year-old daughter to record the video on his mobile phone, the FIR says. His wife Sunit saw the video and informed cops about it. Based on her complaint, police registered an FIR under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC at the Udyog Vihar police station on Thursday. Yadav and Chotu are named as accused.
Police spokesperson Subhash Boken said on Friday that investigation in the case has begun. “The video will be sent for a forensic analysis. Teams will nab the accused soon,” the spokesperson said. Yadav (57) denied that he or Chotu had borrowed any money from Singh. The councillor alleged that Singh was involved in illegal activities, and had an enmity with him because he wanted to take action. “Police must investigate the matter properly and if I am guilty, then I am ready to face action. On the matter of assaulting him or his child, there are several CCTV cameras installed in our village. Police can check every footage... Hang me if I am found guilty,” Yadav said.
