MC swings into action after martyr’s kin’s protest threat

Ludhiana: As soon as the kin of martyr Sukhdev Thapar threatened to start a protest against the civic officials for delay in completion of the land acquisition process for direct access to the martyr’s residence in Naughara Mohalla, the civic officials swung into action on Friday. They pasted notices on the properties to be acquired as part of the acquisition process was getting delayed despite several letters from the district administration. In the notices, the MC has mentioned that by the next month, they will complete the acquisition process and the properties will be acquired.
Around 44 square yards of property area is to be acquired and the process of the same has been getting delayed for the past six years. The staff of the concerned branch was pulled up by the higher officials, after which they woke up from their slumber .
Martyr’s descendant and national president of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust Ashok Thapar expressed gratitude to deputy commissioner Surbhi Malik and corporation commissioner Shena Aggarwal for taking the process forward. He called upon the DC and the commissioner to review the work being done by the officers everyday.
Notably, during the tenure of the previous government, former CM Captain Amarinder Singh had announced direct access to martyr Sukhdev’s ancestral house from Mohalla Naughara to Chaura Bazar. This process had started during Captain’s tenure itself, but due to laxity of officers, it was hanging fire till now. Thapar, a descendant of the martyr, had earlier expressed anger against the poor performance of the administrative officials and even staged a protest against the authorities.
