TIRUPATI: In a shocking incident, a mentally disturbed man asked his four-year-old son to record his suicide on a mobile phone while he killed himself by hanging from the ceiling of his house.
Though the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, it came to light only on Thursday after the deceased's sister filed a complaint with Two Town police.
Kadapa II town sub-inspector Jaya Ramulu said the deceased, identified as Shaik Jamaal Vali (36), worked as a tipper driver and lived with his mother, sister Shabana, three daughters and a son in Chilakalabavi area of Kadapa town. His wife works in Kuwait and was not at home when the incident happened.
The demise of his father, Madhar Saheb, about a year back reportedly disturbed him and pushed him into depression.
He used to come home drunk on most days. On Wednesday night, Jamaal returned home at around 9.15 pm in a drunken state.
Video was forwarded from deceased’s phoneW hile his mother, sister and three daughters were in the ground floor after completing their evening prayers, Jamaal took his four-year-old son along with him to the second floor of the house, where he handed over his mobile phone to the child and asked him to film him. The little boy, who had no clue about his father’s suicidal intentions, quietly obeyed his instructions and filmed his father’s acts. Jamaal took a small chunni, tied one end to the ceiling fan hook and the other to his neck, and committed suicide by hanging.
The little boy, who by now realised something wrong was happening, started crying loudly. Soon, other members of the family heard the child’s cries and rushed upstairs where they found Jamaal hanging from the ceiling. They immediately brought him down and rushed him to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical sciences in Kadapa, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. After the family informed Kadapa II town police about the incident, SI Jaya Ramulu and his team reached RIMS hospital and sent Jamaal’s body for postmortem after registering a case. Ramulu said the ‘suicide video’ was forwarded from Jamaal’s mobile phone to one of his relative’s phone before the phone got locked. Police are trying to unlock the phone now.
