PUNE: June is likely to be a hot month for Maharashtra and most of India.
India Meteorological Department (IMD)'s outlook for maximum temperatures in June indicated it on Friday. Besides, sub-par rainfall will contribute to keep the month hot.
According to the outlook, above-normal day temperatures are likely over most parts of the country in June. Normal to below-normal temperature would be experienced in many areas of extreme north and some parts of the southern peninsular India.
Maharashtra has the highest probability of above-normal temperatures during June and lower probability of normal or below-normal maximum temperatures. Night-time temperatures are also likely to be above-normal.
Indian weather expert Dr Akshay Deoras, research scientist at the University of Reading, United Kingdom, said, "Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha are likely to witness rainfall deficit this June."
Weather expert Vineet Kumar said, "June rain may be below normal in most states. This will lead to above-normal maximum temperatures."
D S Pai, head, Environment Monitoring and Research Centre, IMD, New Delhi, said, "Generally, during an El Nino year, below-normal rainfall is experienced over northwest India, central India and along the west coast."
