THANE: The Thane police has busted a gang of seven people who used to lure people with a proposal to buy gold at discounted rate and later rob them at knifepoint and escape, the police said on Saturday.
A police officer said taht the gang used to first identify, connect with their victims and later lure them to buy gold sourced from bank auctions. The police said they had cases registered at various police stations in Thane.
“The gang targeted a resident from Shrinagar area of Thane and convinced him to arrange RS 25 lakh to by gold. The victim arranged the money following which the accused asked him to come to a secluded spot after which they robbed him of the cash at knifepoint and fled with the gold and cash,” the officer said.
The victim later approached the Thane police who formed teams to track the accused and managed to zero in on one of the accused and arrested him from Byculla in Mumbai.
