Court admits Afzal’s plea challenging verdict

Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court on Thursday admitted an appeal filed by Afzal Ansari, former BSP MP and brother of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, against the judgement of special court for MP/MLA in Ghazipur which has sentenced him to four years jail in a criminal case under the Gangster Act. Justice Rajiv Mishra admitted the appeal and called the record of lower court.
The court fixed July 4 for the next hearing on Afzal’s plea for bail in the case. On April 29, the special court had convicted Afzal Ansari and Mukhtar Ansari in the said case.
It sentenced Mukhtar to 10 years jail. After the judgement, Afzal Ansari was disqualified as Ghazipur MP. TNN
