BENGALURU: Former chief ministers
HD Kumaraswamy and Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday prophesied that the new government may not survive after the Lok Sabha polls in April-May next year.
JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy’s prediction comes against the backdrop of reports of factional feuds in the governing party, as the rival camps led by CM Siddaramaiah and deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar continue to squabble over power-sharing and cabinet berths.
In Haveri, Bommai said the government will not last long and political upheavals are expected in the next four to five months.
“There is a trust deficit in the government and its future depends on the outcome of the LS polls. It may survive or it may fall. I am not making any astrological prediction, but stating facts,” Kumarswamy told party workers. He said the party can regroup with the support of the people who are already feeling let down as there are clear signs that the government will not be able to deliver on its guarantee schemes. He said JD(S) can stage a spectacular comeback by standing by the distraught public and voicing their misery.
He said the Congress won the assembly polls on false promises and by distributing so-called guarantee cards, knowing full well that the party would not be able to deliver on those promises.
He pointed out that the JD(S) leadership could not mobilise the required financial resources for the elections.
