Villager killed in West Singhbhum IED blast
Jamshedpur: In yet another incident of IED blast killing villagers, a 50-year-old villager, Kande Laguri, died when he accidentally stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) at the Luia forest area under the Tonto police station limits in West Singhbhum, police said.
“The incident occurred on Wednesday evening but we found the body of the deceased on Thursday,” said Jagannathpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ikud Dungdung.
The villager along with his wife had gone to the foothills of the forest to collect firewood and dry leaves when Laguri accidentally stepped on the bomb, the SDPO stated, quoting the victim’s family. Earlier on May 21, a 10-year-old boy was killed in the Rengrahatu forest area under the Tonto police station limits when he had gone to the forest with his parents to collect firewood.
Tonto and Goilkera police station limits are the most vulnerable zones as most of the 15 IED explosions occurred here between January 11 and May 25. The latest casualty has taken the toll of civilians killed in such blasts to eight. So far, five villagers were injured in the explosions. Besides, 16 security personnel were hurt in IED blasts during the same period of time.
