MUMBAI: A DNA
test done on a body found in a creek in Trombay, to ascertain if it was of MBBS student Swadichcha Sane who was murdered at Bandstand, Bandra, has turned out negative.
The state forensic science laboratory on Monday sent a report to the crime branch probing the Sane murder case. In June this year, a highly decomposed body with physical characteristics similar to Sane had been found floating in the creek at Trombay. Sane’s body was purportedly dumped in the sea at Bandstand.
The police had collected its DNA and sent the samples to match with the Sane family. “We had sent the teeth of the body found in Trombay. The body found in Trombay had a silver anklet while Sane’s family claims that she never wore anklets. However, our search for Sane’s body is continuing,” said a police officer.
The police have submitted a chargesheet against a food stall owner, Mithu Singh, and his friend Jabbar Ansari for Sane’s murder.
On November 29, Sane who stayed in Palghar was seen taking a train from Virar to go to her college at JJ hospital and getting off at Andheristation. She took another train and reached Bandstand around 1 am. Later, she had been seen with Mithu Singh, heading to the rocks.
The police had submitted a chargesheet against Singh and his friend Ansari.
