Now, Race Course to get IT Circle

Coimbatore: The city corporation has accepted the income tax department’s request to name the junction in front of the department’s zonal office on Race Course Road as IT Circle.
The civic body has set up a dancing fountain on the roundabout at the junction, and is planning to convert it into a musical fountain.
A deputy commissioner of the income tax department wrote to the municipal administration department a few months ago to name the junction IT Circle, a corporation official said.
A proposal to name the junction was introduced in the council meeting held last week.
Although several councillors, who were under the impression that the Race Course would be renamed, initially opposed it, they passed the proposal after officials addressed their concern, corporation commissioner M Prathap said. “Junctions named IT Circle are present in several cities,” he said.
The department’s zonal office at Race Course is the headquarters for eight districts, including Coimbatore.
