Rabbi Avi Weiss makes a convincing argument for offering permanent residency for the child and spouse of a man who sacrificed his life to save another (“A Hero’s Survivors Deserve to Be American,” op-ed, May 17). Why not offer permanent residency for future heroes, too? There are many migrants waiting at the border who have the skills and ability to be trained as firefighters and police officers. Even those with weak English-language skills can be taught, and their native language would be an asset in many police departments.
