A golden anniversary took place this week, commemorating the return of U.S. prisoners of war from Vietnam. On May 24, 1973, President Richard Nixon and his wife hosted a dinner for 1,300 guests under a tent on the South Lawn of the White House—a party recommended to the first lady, Pat Nixon, by Sammy Davis Jr.
