PATNA: BJP on Thursday hit back at CM Nitish Kumar for opposing the scheduled inauguration of new Parliament building by PM Narendra Modi on May 28.
State BJP chief Samrat Chaudhary, addressing a function held at the party's state headquarters here on Thursday, announced that BJP MLAs and MLCs would head to the state assembly premises on Friday to show that CM had laid the foundation stone and later also inaugurated the new legislature building in February 2019.
"In what capacity did CM
Nitish Kumar inaugurate the extended new legislature building of Bihar? We will show the stone plaque that bears his name for the sake of record that he inaugurated the state's extended new legislature building. We will expose the double-face of CM Nitish Kumar, as he is opposing the scheduled inauguration of the new Parliament building by PM Modi," Chaudhary said.
Chaudhary also attacked former Congress president Sonia Gandhi. "In what capacity did Sonia Gandhi lay the foundation stone of the Chhattisgarh legislature building in 2003?" he asked.
However, state parliamentary affairs minister and senior JD(U) functionary Vijay Kumar Choudhary said, "BJP leaders like Sushil Kumar Modi and others, in their "blind bhakti", have forgotten the difference between annex or extended building, and the original legislature building where sittings of the legislature are held, also that the extended legislature building is not for holding the sittings of the legislature in the state."
He said that new Parliament building houses both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for holding their sittings. "Therefore, President Murmu should inaugurate it. Further, neither President nor Vice-President has been invited for the function," he said.
However, Union minister Nityanand Rai said, "Both CM Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yada, in boycotting the function, have been insulting the country, democracy, people's mandate and Parliament or temple of democracy itself."
