Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief K Annamalai on Friday slammed Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party accusing it of "manhandling officials and vandalising vehicles" during the income tax raids in the state. Tamil Nadu: Police register cases against BJP functionary over row with hijab-wearing govt doctor

A BJP worker was booked on Friday for allegedly picking up a quarrel with a hijab-clad woman doctor over not wearing the white coat at a primary health centre in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, police said. Police registered three cases against party functionary Bhuvaneswar Ram, who hails from Thirupoondi in the district, for questioning the woman doctor for wearing hijab during duty hours but not donning the white coat. He was heard questioning her credentials in a video of the incident that went viral.

Toijam Chandramoni, 30, was shot dead during the violence on Wednesday, and Leichombam Abungnao, aged 22, was injured when suspected militants opened fire at the group of people, mostly comprising those who were displaced during the recent ethnic clashes in Churachandpur and took shelter in a relief camp at Moirang in Bishnupur, the officer said.
