BERHAMPUR: A daily-wage labourer beheaded his wife on suspicion of having an illicit relationship with their neighbour, and carried it to the house of the man, before he was arrested.
The deceased, Urmilla Sahu (30) from Choudhury Tikarpada in Ganjam district was married to Chandra Sekhar Karjee's (38), his second wife.
Karjee used an axe to kill Urmila, whom he suspected having an affair with another man in Sara village under Gajapati district's Kashinagar police station limits.
The couple has a two-year-old child.
Police seized the axe used for the crime from the accused, said inspector-in charge of Kashinagar police station Sushant Sahu.
The couple was going to their cashew orchid on the outskirts of the village in the morning when a heated argument took place between them and the man killed her in a fit of rage. Shocked locals informed the police when the accused walked on the streets with the severed head.
"The head was seized near his house and body from the cashew orchid. The body has been sent for autopsy to a hospital in Paralakhemundi. We are investigating to ascertain the exact cause of the murder and interrogating the family members of the deceased and her suspected lover," said Sahu. The first wife of the accused deserted him three years ago as he allegedly tortured her. He married Urmila later.
