CHENNAI: Two days after a businessman and PMK functionary was hacked to death near Maraimalai Nagar, the Chengalpet police on Wednesday arrested five men and launched a hunt for another man and his girlfriend. The latter, a woman constable, hatched the plan to eliminate the victim, allegedly because he continued stalking her despite their relationship having ended, police said.

Ajithkumar have been remanded in judicial custody, charged with killing V Manoharan, 26, of Singaperumal Koil.
On Monday night, Manoharan, who ran a business giving earthmovers for rent and was also a PMK district functionary, was returning home on his bike from Maramalai Nagar when the gang intercepted him near Kondamangalam Panchayat office. He went and hid in a cattle shed, but the gang caught him there and hacked him to death, police said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sangeetha's husband killed himself three years ago and she was posted in Maraimalai Nagar traffic unit when she reportedly developed a relationship with the Manoharan. Recently, she parted ways with him and began a relationship with Arunkumar, who is also a local businessman, a police officer said.
Howeever, Manoharan continued to follow Sangeetha and she had informed Arunkumar of this. He kept asking her to keep in touch with him and based on a plan, Ajithkumar and his friends murdered Manoharan, the officer said.
