'Will be meeting PM Modi and presenting the Sengol': Madurai Adheenam's head priest

As per details, the 'Sengol' was received by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 14 August, 1947, as a representation symbol of the transfer of power from the Britishers to India.

With Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirming the the historic 'Sengol' (sceptre) to be placed near the Speaker's seat in the new parliament building, the 293rd head priest of Madurai Adheenam said he will present the 'Sengol' to PM Modi.

Speaking to the media, Shri Harihara Desika Swamigal said, “I will be meeting PM Modi and presenting the 'Sengol' to him on the inauguration of the new Parliament building."

As per details, the 'Sengol' was received by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 14 August, 1947, as a representation symbol of the transfer of power from the Britishers to India. The same spectre will be handed over to PM Modi by the head priest of Madurai Adheenam on 28th May.

The 'Sengol' was crafted by Vummidi Bangaru Chetty, a renowned jeweller in what was then known as Madras. This impressive sceptre measures five feet in length and features a 'nandi' bull at the top, representing the concept of justice.
