Action sought against illegal felling of trees

Ludhiana: Activist Kapil Arora on Wednesday registered a complaint with the department of rural development and panchayats against the alleged illegal felling of trees on Chuharpur Road /Balloke Link Road here. Arora has sought registration of FIRs against the persons responsible for the same.
He stated that many full-grown trees were illegally axed by unidentified persons at Chuharpur/Balloke Road around two-three days ago and the logs are still lying at the site. The activist claimed he had discussed the matter with officials concerned, who have assured action as per law.
Arora demanded strict action against the erring persons. He claimed that the air quality of the city had already deteriorated and people are still not able to realise the importance of planting more trees and saving the existing ones. The activist alleged that several complaints have been filed in the past in the areas under municipal corporation too, but the offenders were not deterred due to inaction. He also criticised the panchayat department for not filing any FIRs.
