Maharashtra HSC 12th result 2023: Pune division records pass percentage of 93.43%, bags 2nd position in state after Konkan

In Pune district, Indapur taluka reported the highest overall pass percentage at 95.30 per cent while Maval was placed at the bottom with 87.28 per cent.

According to the results declared Thursday, the students of the Pune division came up with a creditable overall performance in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Class 12 examinations by recording a pass percentage of 93.34 per cent to come second among the nine divisions in the state after Konkan.

Of the 2,40,692 students who appeared for the examinations in the Pune division, which includes Pune, Solapur and Ahmednagar districts, 2,24,665 were declared successful. While Pune’s pass percentage was the lowest (91.14) in the division, Ahmednagar (92.63) and Solapur (93.69) fared better. Last year, the division’s pass percentage was 93.61 per cent.

Overall, the state-wide results marked a significant dip in the pass percentage at 91.25 per cent this year compared to 94.22 per cent in 2022. The overall pass percentage among girls this year is higher by 4.59 per cent points than boys at 93.73 per cent. Boys recorded a pass percentage of 89.14 per cent.

In Pune district, Indapur taluka reported the highest overall pass percentage at 95.30 per cent while Maval was placed at the bottom with 87.28 per cent. The urban areas of Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune City East and Pune City West reported pass percentages of 93.28 per cent, 88.24 per cent and 88.64 per cent, respectively.

Reflecting the state trend, girls outperformed boys even in the district. As much as 94.92 per cent girls who had appeared for the exam managed to pass while 90.64 per cent of the boys who had appeared for the exam passed the exam.

Besides, of the three major streams, the district results show that science recorded the highest pass percentage of 95.13 per cent followed by commerce (90.23 per cent) and arts (81.63 per cent). Of the 137 subjects, 33 recorded 100 per cent results although a majority of these were either foreign languages such as French, Spanish and German or courses in the vocational stream.

Addressing a press conference, Sharad Gosavi, chairman of the Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, said the dip in the overall pass percentage needs to be looked at in the light of circumstances under which this year’s exams were held (in February and March).

Pointing out that this was the first full-syllabus board examination held in the state after the pandemic, he said, “This time, we had not given extra time to the students and the examination was conducted on the full syllabus. The overall pass percentage has slipped a bit.”

State-wide figures show that of the 14,28,114 registered students this year, 14,16,371 appeared for the examinations. From this count, 12,92,468 students were declared successful with students of science stream recording the highest pass percentage of 96.09 per cent.

According to Gosavi, Konkan recorded the highest pass percentage of 96.01 per cent while Mumbai saw the lowest pass percentage among the nine divisions with 88.23 per cent. While the results are available on the board’s website, physical copies will be made available at junior colleges after June 5, he said.

Providing other details of the examinations, the board said that 11 FIRs were lodged this year for malpractices.

Asked about the case in Aurangabad, where 345 answer sheets from 23 colleges were found to have “overwriting”, Gosavi said, “The papers were sent to two different teachers and we are working to find the culprit. The board had instructed the examiners to correct and mark the parts which were in the handwriting of the students and leave out the portion which was in a different handwriting.”
