NEW DELHI: In an interaction between officials of Delhi University and Delhi Police, a proposal to make food courts on the varsity campus emerged on Wednesday.
While interacting with police officers during a joint "Suraksha Chintan Shivir," DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh also asked the university registrar to constitute a committee to look into the problem of traffic within the campus.
"Regarding the problem of traffic on the roads passing through the university, a project proposal will be sent to the government to make elevated roads. The scheme may take a long time, but it will be very beneficial. Serious efforts will also be made to make good food courts in the university," Singh said.
A senior university official further explained, "Though colleges have their respective canteens and there is some street food available, there is no such common space where both teachers and students can visit for food. Hence, the university is planning to come up with a food court each for the North and South campuses."
Keeping in view concerns raised by several heads of departments and principals of colleges, Delhi Police officers also said that "test kits" were being procured to investigate cases pertaining to drugs on campus.
DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said, "If colleges inform police about such cases, cops will investigate the accused on the spot and take desired action. Under the 'Safe City' project, 46 CCTV cameras have been installed in the DU campus."
They also discussed the protest sites on campus.
The VC further added, "The fear of society, family and teachers has reduced a lot among the children, but the fear of police is still there. If teachers keep interrupting the students on wrongdoings, then the strength of the social institutions will remain."
