Over 11.5 lakh stray cattle have got a safe shelter in UP

LUCKNOW: As part of its drive to protect stray cattle in the state, the government has, so far, spent Rs 1,682 crore on protecting over 11.50 lakh stray cattle. In a presentation made before the chief secretary, it was said that till March 31, 2023, there were 6,066 temporary cow shelters in the state which were housing 9,15,125 cattle. Another 1.40 lakh cattle were in large cow shelters and around 86,000 in Kanha Upvans.
Under the CM Nirashrit Govansh Sahbhagita Scheme, the government has made it compulsory to upload data within a week so that the payment for June to families which have adopted stray cattle can be made by the first week of July.
“In addition to the cow shelters and kanha upvans, there are 17,156 cattle in Kanji Houses, taking the total cattle under protection to over 11.50 lakh. In 2023-24, a target of 80 lakh quintal of straw for cattle feed has been set. Out of this, 24 lakh quintal will be donated while the remaining 56 lakh quintal will be purchased. Till March 3 this year, 3.077 lakh quintal straw had been accumulated through donation while 19.35 lakh quintal had been purchased,” said an official, adding that districts where less than 10% of the target feed had been collected had been instructed to take the matter seriously.
Funds under the CM Nirashrit Govansh Sahbhagita Scheme have to be issued through the Go Ashray portal. So far, 98,147 persons have been registered on it while Aadhar details of 65,507 and bank details of 61,978 have been entered. Concerned departments have been directed to complete the task of updating this information within a week.
