Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) has started a process for registration of autonomous colleges and universities in the state on the platform of Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). After institutions register successfully, students will be registered on this platform to get services of
ABC.
The ABC under the
ministry of education will provide a variety of services, including academic credit verification, credit accumulation, credit transfer or redemption and authentication of academic awards. If a student gets academic credits from different registered institutions, his/her credits will be deposited in a single account of the student created on this ABC platform.
According to
the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the ABC has been envisaged to facilitate the academic mobility of students with the freedom to study in the higher education institutions in the country with an appropriate credit transfer mechanism from one programme to another, leading to attain a degree/diploma/PG-diploma, said official sources.
OSHEC vice-chairperson Asoka Kumar Das said the credits received by students will be deposited in their ABC academic account.
If the student moves to a different institution, the accumulated credits get transferred to the account of the new institution. After the credit is redeemed for the award of the degree, it would be debited from the respective students ABC academic account, he added.
The OSHEC has taken the responsibility to help the institutions for registration on the ABC platform.
A higher education institute needs to register itself with NAD before ABC registration.
So far, nine out of 30 autonomous colleges and 10 out of 14 state public universities in the state have registered, said council sources.
