Ludhiana: Irked over the delay in the work to provide direct access to the ancestral house of martyr Sukhdev Thapar in Naughara mohalla, the kin of the martyr have once again decided to stage a protest against Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC).
The process to acquire the land for giving direct access is almost complete, but the civic officials are yet to submit the evaluation report for the buildings to be acquired, and not even the notices have been pasted outside the buildings.
Thapar’s kin claimed they wanted this process to be done May 15, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the martyr, but it was not done. They claimed now they were left with no other option but to protest against the authorities.
National president of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust,
Ashok Thapar said, “More than six years have passed since the planning to give direct access to the martyr’s house began, but it is only because of the delay at the end of officials that the process is still incomplete.” He shared that repeated reminder letters were being sent to the MC officials from the SDM office, but former were not paying attention.
Thapar on Wednesday took to social media, and announced to start a protest against the authorities. He has sought support from other city residents, as well. Thapar said the decision to provide a direct access to the house of the martyr was taken during the previous Congress-led state government. He criticised the officials for taking so long to acquire 44 square yards of property. He said the state government claims to give due respect to the martyrs, but the officials were delaying the same.
The MC officials, however, claimed that the process is in its final stage.
