CHENNAI: A 24-year-old accountant with a private firm stabbed his younger brothers in a quarrel at their house in Kolathur in the wee hours of Tuesday, killing one and leaving the other, a college student, with injuries that are now being treated in hospital. Police later arrested V Suresh, an accountant, before a court sent him to jail.
A police officer said Suresh lived with his parents Venkateshwaralu and Subbulakshmi and brothers Srinivas, and Srikanth, 20, at Thirumalai Nagar, Kolathur. Venkateshwaralu, who runs an eatery near their house, had gone to Andhra Pradesh, their native state, to look for a bride for Suresh, when the incident happened.
Suresh, who had left home on Friday last to attend a relative's wedding in Nellore, returned on Monday morning and then left for work.
When he returned at night, Srikanth asked him to go to the Koyambedu wholesale market to buy vegetables for their eatery. Suresh asked him to take care of it the next morning, but Srikanth insisted that Suresh do so, saying that it was their parents' instruction.
On Tuesday, around 5am, a fresh argument broke out between Suresh and Srikkanth about who should buy the vegetables when Suresh snatched a kitchen knife and attacked him.
Srinivas, who came to pacify the brothers, was also stabbed by Suresh in the chest.
A few of their neighbours rushed to the spot and took the injured brothers to a hospital where Srinivas died of injuries on Wednesday. He had suffered multiple wounds on the chest.
The Madhavaram police, who had registered an attempt to murder case (307 IPC) against Suresh alerted it to murder (302 IPC) and arrested him.
