A major fire was reported at a cluster of seven godowns storing wood and wooden items in the Bhavani Peth timber market in Pune early Thursday. Pune Fire Brigade officials said the fire started around 4 am and spread from one of the godowns to the others.
Considering the intensity and expanse of the fire, as many as 30 fire tenders from Pune, Pune Cantonment, Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA), and Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigades were deployed to control the blaze.
According to Fire Brigade Control Room officials, no casualties have been reported so far and firefighters were still trying to bring the fire under control.
The fire was stopped from spreading to adjacent residential areas and a school and as many as 10 gas cylinders were taken out from the area.
