Guwahati: Cotton University (CU) will not consider any plea by students to get admission in undergraduate courses through a different mode other than the CUET (UG).
A large number of students from the state have not applied for CUET (UG) due to lack of awareness about the all-India entrance exam for admission to undergraduate programmes. Cotton University and Bhattadev University are the only two state universities in
Assam that have joined CUET (UG). With over 30 departments, CU, which was upgraded from the prestigious Cotton College, remains one of the most preferred destinations for students from different education boards.
Even as many state board candidates are knocking on CU’s door to enquire for “localised admission”, after they did not register for CUET (UG), CU administration said it will enrol only those students who will come through CUET (UG). Sources in the university said more aspirants from state boards may throng the varsity campus in the days to come after the declaration of the Class XII state board results.
Sources in the varsity said it has 10,000 applicants who are appearing for CUET (UG), seeking admission to CU, even as many leading state universities of Assam, including Gauhati University have not participated in CUET (UG). “We have around 1,000 seats in the UG courses and hopefully all the seats will be filled up by CUET (UG) applicants,” said academic registrar Sanjay Dutta.
