Security personnel bust Maoist camp in Kandhamal forest

Berhampur: Security personnel on Wednesday busted a Maoist camp after an exchange of fire with the rebels in Budhanai reserve forest of Kandhamal district.
Several items belonging to the Maoists, including firearms, IEDs and detonators have been seized, after the Maoists fled from the spot, police said.
Acting on intelligence inputs, personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG) carried out an operation in the area since Tuesday night, the police said. They came upon a Maoist camp in the jungle where a group of 30 to 40 rebels started firing on the forces. The SOG personnel retaliated and an exchange of fire took place for around half an hour, they added.
Kandhamal SP Subhendu Patra said some of the rebels may have been injured following the exchange of fire as security personnel found bloodstains near the spot. A member of the SOG team sustained minor injuries and was shifted to Phulbani hospital, police said.TNN
