Raise OBC quota from 21% to 27%: Cong MLA
Jaipur: Congress MLA and former minister Harish Choudhary on Wednesday met state other backward class (OBC) commission Justice Bhavru Khan and submitted a memorandum demanding that the reservation for OBCs in the state should be increased from 21 to 27 per cent. He also wanted the central government to make public the figures of the census conducted based on caste.
He said the state government should also conduct a separate caste census. “We have been demanding for the past two years to increase OBC reservation to 27 per cent. OBC category has the highest percentage in terms of population in Rajasthan which is more than half the total population of the state. But in the class-wise quota, only 21 percent reservation has been given to OBCs in the state. It is the biggest obstacle in the representation of the OBCs in proportion to the population,” said Choudhary.
He also said OBC reservation sangharsh samiti has been working on increasing OBC reservation for the past two years and it should not be seen as an election issue. “We demand from both central and state governments to increase the scope of OBC reservation,” he said. Earlier, Chaudhary had attacked the CM and blamed him for deferring the proposal to remove the ‘quota anomalies’.
