Governor Pillai, Gulzar to present Jnanpith Award to Damodar Mauzo

Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai and poet-filmmaker, Gulzar will jointly confer the Jnanpith Award on the Goan writer Damodar Mauzo on May 27, at Raj Bhavan, at 5 p. m.

The Minister for Art and Culture will be the guest of honour.

Justice Virendra Jain, the president of the Bharatiya Jnanpith, and Pratibha Ray, chairperson of the Selection Board will also grace the occasion.

The ceremony is organised by Bharatiya Jnanpith, in collaboration with the Directorate of Art and Culture and KLJ Group.

The 79-year-old Mauzo is a novelist, short story writer, critic, and scriptwriter. He has several published works to his credit in Konkani and English. ‘Karmelin’, his Konkani novel bagged the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983. It has been translated into fourteen Indian languages, and four translations into Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi and Maithili have also won the Sahitya Akademi Translation awards.

Bharatiya Jnanpith is a trust and is managed by a Board of Trustees.
