NSA advisory board team meets Amritpal Singh, his aides in Dibrugarh prison
The four-member team of the NSA advisory board arrives at Dibrugarh jail on Tuesday
DIBRUGARH: A four-member team of the advisory board constituted by the Punjab government under the National Security Act (NSA) arrived in Dibrugarh on Tuesday to meet the Warsi Punjab De members lodged in Dibrugarh Central jail.
The team headed by retired high court judge, Justice Shabihul Hasnain (chairperson) and consisting of Suveer Sheokand (member), Divanshu Jain (member), Rakesh Agarwal, IGP Punjab Police, arrived at the Dibrugarh Central Jail at 3.30pm to meet the Waris Punjab De members who have been booked under the National Security Act (NSA). They left the jail at 6.30pm after meeting the Punjab Waris De members and jail officials. Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and nine of his close aides, including Papalpreet Singh are lodged at the high-security prison.
The advisory board constituted under the NSA has been conferred with the crucial task of overseeing mechanisms to examine the grounds on which detention order is made and the material offered by the government to justify the detention order. The board will have to submit its report to the government within seven weeks from the date of detention of the person concerned. This was the second visit of the NSA advisory board members to Dibrugarh. Earlier, they had come to the Dibrugarh jail on April 19.
