Governor visits Sirkazhi; five held for showing black flags

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi participated in Yagasalai puja at the Sattainathar temple in Sirkazhi taluk in Mayiladuthurai on Tuesday. Meanwhile, police arrested a group of protesters while they attempted to show black flags opposing his visit to the temple.
The kumbabishekam for the Sattainathar Brahmapuriswarar temple is scheduled to be held on May 24, for which an eight-day Yagasalai puja has been performed.
Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi arrived at the temple on Tuesday evening and participated in the seventh day of the Puja. A large number of police were deployed in and around the temple and the town for protection headed by the superintendent of police, N S Nisha.
Meanwhile, a group of protesters from the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest attempting to show black flags against the governor near Arasur roundabout and raised slogans opposing his visit to the town. Immediately, police arrested five and seized their two-wheelers, police said.
