VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam police arrested a notorious thief who was invoved in 70 theft cases in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The thief was apprehended by the city police in connection with a case registered in Airport Police Station limits. He was identified as 35-year-old S Anil Kumar of the Sivajipalem area in the city.
City police commissioner CM Trivikram Varma said that Anil used to lift a two-wheeler first and conduct recce before committing thefts.
Anil recently committed a theft at a doctor’s house in Vasavi Paradise Apartment in Ganesh Nagar early on May 6. He looted gold and silver articles and ornaments from the house.
Cops probing the case found that a two-wheeler bearing the Telangana registration number plate was used in the crime and that led to the arrest of the accused, his mother, brother, and a friend who cooperated with him in selling the stolen items.
Varma said that Anil was released from Karimnagar Jail on April 18 and committed a theft in Medak district on April 19. He stole a pearl neckless and a two-wheeler. Cops recovered the items worth Rs 5.80 lakh from his possession.
