Vaibhavi Upadhyaya's last rites are over. The funeral of the 39-year-old actress, who played the unforgettable Jasmine in JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia's 'Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai' is over. Believe it or not, she was on holiday for 15 days with her fiance, with whom she had a roka just a few weeks ago.
The scene at the crematorium (Borivli, Mumbai) was horrifying. While her father put up a brave front and quietly shed his tears in a corner, the mother was totally shattered and wept inconsolably. Believe it or not, Mr and Mrs Upadhyaya were in Australia when the tragedy happened and rushed home to arrive just today. (ETimes TV was the FIRST to report about Vaibhavi's demise with EXCLUSIVE DETAILS, last night. Click on the link below to read):
Vaibhavi's brother had flown out to be near the tragic site from where the body was recovered. It was a police case as soon as the accident happened.
The fiance, as seen at the crematorium, had injured both his hands.
But what exactly happened? And when did it happen? It happened not yesterday as reported earlier but the day before, that is, on May 22. Vaibhavi and her fiance were travelling in a car and at a steep turn, they allowed a truck coming from the opposite direction to pass by. Vaibhavi's fiance was driving the car and the truck brushed the car as it went past it. The brush, however, gave a jolt to the car and Vaibhavi was thrown out from the car into a valley (ditch) which was on her side at that instant. The jolt was quite hard as the car is believed to have toppled consequently.
The fiance luckily escaped with only a few injuries on his hands. But Vaibhavi was gone almost in a flash. Vaibhavi, who hadn't worn a seat belt, suffered head injuries and a cardiac arrest. A lot of people soon gathered and had to bring her out, but it was apparently too late.
Can life be so cruel? Yes. Was this Vaibhavi's appointment with God that she could not ward off? Yes. How else does one explain such a tragedy?
