NEW DELHI: Former Congress president
Rahul Gandhi moved a Delhi court on Tuesday seeking a no-objection certificate for issuance of a fresh ordinary passport as he had surrendered his diplomatic passport on being disqualified as member of Parliament after being convicted in a defamation case.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Vaibhav Mehta sought the response of
Subramanian Swamy, the complainant in the National Herald case, to Rahul’s application, and posted the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
Rahul and his mother
Sonia Gandhi were granted bail in the National Herald case in December 2015.
The application for an ordinary passport comes ahead of his visit to the US for 10 days in June 2023 to address the Indian diaspora at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. He is also to deliver a speech at
Stanford University in California.
Rahul, who represented Wayanad in Kerala, had ceased to be an MP from March 24.
