New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal announced on Wednesday that it has extended the deadline for the submission of bids until June 27, 2023, for the ongoing 7th round of Commercial Coal Mine auctions.
Responding to numerous requests from potential bidders, the ministry decided to grant an additional 28-day extension, pushing the previous deadline of 30 May, 2023, to the new date of 27 June, 2023.
“In view of requests received from large number of potential bidders, the Ministry has extended the last date for bid submission by 28 days and now the last date for bid submission for 7th round of auctions is 27.06.2023 which was 30.5.2023 earlier," the ministry said.
The coal ministry aims to boost production capacity by allocating and auctioning coal mines.
To date, 133 mines with a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 540 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) have been allocated or auctioned. Of these, 48 coal mines have already commenced production, with a combined PRC of 195 MTPA.
During the ongoing financial year, production from captive and commercial mines has reached 16.25 million tonnes as of May 22, 2023. This represents a significant growth of 10.2% compared to the 14.75 million tonnes produced during the same period last year.
To expedite the development of coal mines by private players, the coal ministry is providing comprehensive support, including assistance with land availability, environmental and forest clearances, and coordination among various agencies. The ministry has set a target of 162 million tonnes production from captive and commercial mines for this financial year.
