    Sensex & Nifty end lower amid weak global sentiments

    Sensex and Nifty ended in red as investors remained cautious amid weak global sentiments and ahead the release of FOMC meeting minutes. Sensex fell 208 points and settled below 61,800 mark while Nifty ended below 18,300 mark.

    Hi everyone, welcome to ET Market Watch - your daily podcast where we bring you the latest news from the world of stock market. I am Neha Vashishth, let's start with today's highlights.

    Sensex and Nifty ended in red as investors remained cautious amid weak global sentiments and ahead the release of FOMC meeting minutes. Sensex fell 208 points and settled below 61,800 mark while Nifty ended below 18,300 mark.

    Today's gainers and losers
    Sun Pharma, Titan, ITC, IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra and Power Grid were the top gainers, while Infosys, Nestle, Kotak Bank, HUL, Tata Steel closed lower.

    Stocks in news today
    Shares of Deepak Nitrite rallied 9% after the company announced investment plans in Gujarat. Biocon also gained after strong fourth quarter revenue and profit growth. Engineers India and NBCC rose over 7% each.

    Sectorally, Nifty Metal, Nifty FMCG, Nifty PSU bank closed lower while Nifty Pharma gained 1.03%. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap100 rose 0.21%, and Smallcap100 was flat.

    Global Markets
    Asian stocks extended a global sell-off as US debt ceiling negotiations dragged on without resolution. The Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.28%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index lost 1.62%. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 shed 0.89%

    Rupee and oil prices
    Rupee jumped 17 paise to close at 82.68 against US dollar amid possible dollar inflows and recovery of the Chinese yuan. Oil prices also rose after data showed US inventories and fuel supplies tightening and following a warning of further OPEC+ output cuts. Brent crude futures rose 1.2%, to $77.72 a barrel while US WTI gained 1.3%, to $73.89 a barrel. That's all for today, stay tuned to ETMarkets for more.
