This comes after the fresh escalations in ongoing ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki community people in Manipur

Accusing the Manipur Government of doing enough to protect locals from militants, a group of people on Wednesday vandalized the house of PWD minister Konthoujam Govindas in the Bishnupur district of the state. This comes after the fresh escalations in ongoing ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki community people in the state. Eastern Army commander Lt Gen R P Kalita also undertook a three-day visit to a violence-hit state.

At the time of the incident, no one was present at the residence of the minister. The officials said that the attackers which mostly included women damaged a portion of a gate, windows, a few pieces of furniture, and electronic gadgets.

“The locals were angry. They alleged that Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Govindas, and other BJP MLAs have been silent over the ongoing violence and not doing enough to protect them from armed militants," an official said.

The violence that broke out in Manipur earlier this month has claimed more than 70 lives and the Army and Central Armed Police Forces are deployed in the state to control the situation.

On Tuesday, militants took advantage of the relaxation in curfew hours and torched the houses of some villagers at Toronglaobi in Bishnupur district.

Lt Gen R P Kalita also reviewed the ground security situation and also held meetings with the local stakeholders, including members of all communities and several civil society organizations, the defence officials said.

In the meeting, the senior Army officer "urged suspension of hostilities by all sections of society".

Lt Gen R P Kalita also met Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other senior officials of the state. The Army Commander discussed the situation on the ground and talked about the measures to boost unison among all agencies to deal with the situation effectively.

The Army has also recovered five shotguns, five improvised local grenades, and three cartons of shotguns from a car in the Senapati district of Manipur.
