Ensure scrapping of 15-yr-old govt dept vehicles, says DM
Kanpur: Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar on Tuesday directed secretary, regional transport authority Kanpur to ensure that the district magistrates of all the districts in Kanpur division ensure scrapping of all 15 years old vehicles of the government departments in their respective districts and review the same on monthly basis.
Earlier, the secretary, regional transport authority informed in the meeting that the scrap policy has been brought by the Government of India for disposal of all old vehicles.
Under this policy, two scrap centres have been opened in the Kanpur division and the process of opening more such centres is going on. At present it has been decided to scrap all government vehicles which are 15 years old. As many as 1300 government vehicles are 15 years old in Kanpur division itself, he said.
In reply to the question about the age of vehicles in respect of pollution, the secretary informed that the age limit had been fixed only for the heavy vehicles covered under national permit. No age limit has been set by the state government for the state vehicles (trucks).
The commissioner has asked him to send a proposal to the state government regarding fixing of the age limit to reduce pollution.
In order to keep the environment clean, the commissioner gave instructions for maximum use of CNG auto rickshaws in all the districts of the division. He also asked to suspend/cancel the permits of the vehicle owners found violating the permit area/route or the traffic rules.
