Mormugao taps run dry for third day
Vasco: Several parts of Mormugao taluka witnessed a water shortage for the third consecutive day on Tuesday.
Water supply was affected after power supply to the Selaulim water treatment was hit by the unseasonal rain that lashed South Goa on Monday night.
The only water tanker hired by the public works department (PWD) at Baina on contract basis failed to meet the demand of the public as it could not make over five trips.
The public had to resort to private tankers by paying Rs 1,000 to 1,600 for each trip of a tanker carrying 6,000 to 8,000 litres of water.
“PWD failed to fulfil public demand during the crisis. Running with a single tanker makes no sense. The PWD should have made additional provisions to meet demands,” said Arvind Naik, a resident of New Vaddem, Dabolim.
PWD (water section) assistant engineer Naresh Painginkar said, “The water supply will be restored by Tuesday night. We will see that water reaches every house by Wednesday morning.”
