Head constable’s son cracks UPSC
Surat: Head constable in city police, Ramesh Parmar was a proud man on Tuesday, after his son, Mayur (26), cracked the UPSC exam. While the son fulfilled his father’s long-pending desire, the senior was overjoyed that he will now be able to now salute his son after he becomes a top government official.
“There is no greater joy than be able to salute my own son. He worked hard and achieved his goal,” Ramesh, who helped his son see his dream through in spite of their economic struggles, told TOI.
Natives of Gadhula village in Bhavnagar district, the family has been living in the city for the past 30 years after Ramesh got a job in the police. Mayur’s mother Meena is also waiting to see her son don an officer’s garb.
Mayur secured 823 rank in the results declared on Monday and is also preparing to reappear in the UPSC exams to be held next week. “I will join the services on the post offered. But my target is to become an IAS. Hence, I have been preparing to appear in the exam again,” he said.
He studied Bachelor of Technology in civil engineering from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) and initially worked with a contracting firm. He then started preparation with Gujarati Literature for UPSC. tnn
