100 stolen, lost phones traced
Mysuru: District police have traced over 100 lost and stolen mobile phones and recovered about 50 mobile phones from different parts of the country with the assistance of Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), a database of mobile equipment.
Superintendent of police Seema Latkar said mobile phones that were lost and stolen in the last two months have been traced. A total of 100 phones have been traced and of them 50 are recovered and the rest are being recovered. Earlier 30 mobile phones were traced and recovered.
The lost phones were traced in Kerala, Maharashtra and parts of Karnataka. Identifying lost or stolen smartphone is easier with CEIR portal provided the owner lodges a complaint with details of IMEI number of the device, Latkar said.
24-year-old arrested for robbing auto driver
A 24-year-old has been arrested on the charges of robbery by Mysuru district police. His arrest led to the solving of six cases of robberies in various police station limits.
In a complaint to Varuna Police, an auto driver had claimed that two youths who boarded his auto around 9pm on May 19, near the city bus stand, had stopped him in a secluded place and then was robbed of his mobile phone and cash. Then they took away his auto. Within two days, police nabbed him and recovered both the auto and mobile phone. The accused was also found involved in five other robberies in Mysuru south, Yelwala and Biligere police limits. His associate is on the run, SP Seema Latkar said.
