Erode: A major fire broke out at a flex banner printing unit in the city in the early hours of Tuesday, gutting materials worth Rs15 lakh.
According to police, the unit was run by K Suresh Kumar, 40, of Thingalur, on Erode-Mettur state highway in the city.
“Around 2am, thick smoke emanated from the printing unit. Passers-by alerted the fire and rescue services personnel in the city and they put out the fire after an hour’s struggle,” a police officer said.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the printing machine, two AC units, two computers and flex materials were completely destroyed in the incident. “Short circuit could be the reason behind the fire,” the officer said,
The Erode government hospital police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry in connection with the incident.
