HYDERABAD: Four aspirants from the two Telugu states made it to the Top 50 in the Civil Services Examination, 2022, results of which were declared on Tuesday. In a related development, UPSC Civils topper Ishita Kishore, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, is said to have a Hyderabad connection as she was born in Begumpet.
In the exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Nalgonda girl Uma Harathi N secured the all India rank (AIR) 3, while Dr GVS Pavan Datta from Tirupati,
Andhra Pradesh, secured 22 rank, Telangana boys Ajmera Sanketh Kumar and Sri Sai Ashrith Shakhamuri secured 35th and 40th ranks respectively.
Quite a few from the Telugu states secured a spot in the top 100 list and many more made the final cut.
“I ventured into civil services examination preparation about three years ago after completion of MBBS in 2020. I prepared on my own and availed mock interview services of a few coaching institutions in Delhi,” Pavan Datta told TOI.
Utkarsh Kumar, who bagged AIR 78, said he would most likely get a posting in civil services and has chosen Telangana cadre as his first preference. “This is my last attempt and I am glad that I could put in my best performance,” he added.
About 40 aspirants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are expected to have qualified in the examinations, which is considered to be the toughest test. “Many aspirants who have qualified are repeaters. This has been the trend for the last few years. Apart from intellectual skills, the exam has become a test of patience and perseverance and an average aspirant is qualifying after two to three attempts. As usual, the Telugu states have performed the best in south India,” said Gopala Krishna, director, Brain Tree, Hyderabad.
From the Telugu states, 80,707 candidates had appeared for the preliminary examination and about 500 of them qualified for mains. Of them, over 100 had qualified for the personality test. Of them, 40 aspirants made it to the final list.
Institutes offering coaching for the UPSC examinations said that while only four candidates made it to the top 50, there was not much change when it comes to the total number of candidates selected as every year about 35-40 of them are selected for various services from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
