KORAPUT: Tension prevailed at Lamataput block headquarters in the district on Tuesday as some Congress activists reportedly hurled eggs at the vehicle of BJD's Koraput MLA Raghuram Padal.
The incident took place around 11am near Lamataput police outpost while the legislator was on his way to inaugurate a new building of the Lamataput block office.
According to sources, irked over the missing names of Koraput MP and zilla parishad member from the plaque prepared for inauguration of the building, the Congress activists damaged the plaque and attacked the MLA's vehicle with eggs.
However, sensing trouble, adequate police personnel were rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control as the incident had triggered anger among supporters of Padal. "The situation was brought under control and one person has been detained for interrogation," said Nandapur SDPO Sanjay Mahapatra. Padal said he does not get to decide whose name will be in the plague. As it was a BJD government's programme, the Congress opposed it with a political motive which is very unfortunate, he added.
