PRAYAGRAJ: The alleged robbery of Rs 1.5 lakh on Monday in Fatehpur district has turned out to be a fake story crooked up by the complainant. Police investigation and cross-questioning of the complainant helped the truth come to light on Tuesday.
Fatehpur police arrested
Rajendra Kumar, 35, resident of Dariyapur, for creating the false story of loot at gunpoint to frame his opponents. He could not, however, face cross-questioning by police and started fumbling and changing details of the story. He had claimed that three masked and bike borne robbers had looted him near Marhara canal road when he was returning home after withdrawing money from bank, whereas police investigations and electronic surveillance proved that there was no one present at that particular spot and time.
On Monday, Rajendra had dialled 112 to inform police about the said loot and police even lodged an FIR under section 392 of IPC at the police station concerned.
The farmer neither suffered any injury, nor anyone in the area heard his cry for help.
When police took him to the spot, he could not prove any such crime took place there was no witness either. When police questioned him strictly, he took police team to the spot where he had hidden the money under a big stone behind a shrub.
Inspector (Kalyanpur) A P Shukla said, “The behaviour of the complainant was doubtful since beginning. We did not get any evidence during investigation, hence questioned him at length. He broke down and confessed he had lied.”
The farmer wanted to fabricate charges against a man of the same village to settle an old score. Thus, he concocted the fake loot story and expressed suspicion towards his enemy.
