Mangaluru: A researcher has studied an inscription found on a temple premise in Balanja of Belthangady. Based on the request from authorities from Shri Durga Panchalingeshwara, researcher Shruthesh Acharya Moodubelle, from Pleach India Foundation, Hyderabad, has studied an inscription found at the temple.
The granite inscription has 17 lines in Kannada with pictures of sun, moon, Shivalinga and Nandi engraved on it. It belongs to 1489 CE and is a gift inscription as it reads that land was donated to the Panchalingeshwara Temple in Balanja for the preparation of ‘Naivedya’ during the period of Somanatha Pernnannarasa of the Ajila family. It also mentions a specific amount of paddy to be handed over to the temple every year, said Shruthesh Acharya.
SA Krishnaiah, director of Oriental Research Center, Udupi, Manjunath Bhat temple priest, Anand Devadiga and Ravi Santhosh Alva have assisted in the research.
