AGARTALA: The chairman of the main opposition Tipra Motha in Tripura, royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has slammed BJP leaders including Union home minister
Amit Shah and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for not keeping their promise toward the constitutional solution of the tribals of the state.
Pradyot in a Facebook Live alleged that there was a series of meetings with Shah and Sarma on the appointment of an interlocutor to deal with the demands and issues of indigenous people of the state and come up with constitutional solutions but even after three months of the formation of the new government nothing has been done.
“We were assured by Shah in a meeting and even over the phone too he told me that an interlocutor has been appointed and notification was issued. The person (interlocutor) spoke to me with that reference and told me the date of his Tripura visit which was later rescheduled owing to the turmoil in Manipur. But neither he came and nor there is any progress,” Pradyot stated.
He smelled a design to undermine his personality by making him a liar in front of people. The BJP leaders allegedly made promises to the Tipra Motha team about the visit of the interlocutor, “Accordingly, I announced the progress of our demand and the date of the interlocutor’s visit but nothing happened, which falsify my statement.”
Pradyot has now threatened to launch an agitation in support of Motha's demand and said that he was not a beggar, and he and his party's fight was for a constitutional solution to the tribal issues and problems.
"I have sold my royal properties to fight the assembly election but there was propaganda going on that BJP paid me Rs 300 crore. I am ready to spend more for securing the rights of the tribals.”
Earlier, Pradyot had announced that the Centre's advisor on northeast affairs A K Mishra would visit Tripura as an interlocutor on May 8 to discuss the issues raised by Tipra Motha. Later, he claimed that Mishra had called him and told him that due to the crisis in Manipur, he would now visit on May 12 but finally, he did not turn up.
