PATNA: Cops are now bringing smiles on faces of people by returning their stolen cell phone sets.
Believe it or not, the Gopalganj district police have currently earned laurels from various quarters for returning 80 stolen cell phone sets to their owners on Monday.
Acting on reports that a gang involved in the loot of cell phones is quite active in the district, SP Swarn Prabhat formed a mobile recovery team to recover the looted/stolen phone sets. The team soon became active and recovered as many as 80 sets worth Rs15 lakh which were later handed over to their owners on Monday, bringing smiles to their faces.
“I had lost my phone 8-9 months back and almost lost hope of getting it back but it came as a pleasant surprise when the police called me up the other day and asked me to reach the SP office to collect the cell phone set saying it has been recovered,” said Manoj Yadav, wearing a broad smile on his face. He profusely thanked the local police for this wonderful work.
Priyanka Kumai is another woman who is very delighted to have got back her stolen phone. She had lost her cell phone set on February 7 this year.
“Never had I imagined that I would get back my mobile set and that too so early. I appealed to the police to solve other problems of the masses also so quickly,” Priyanka said. Rahul Kushwaha also heaped praises on the police for such a ‘wonderful act’ that made his life happy.
The SP said on receiving complaints about loot/theft of mobile phones on a large scale, he issued a helpline number to register their complaints. Subsequently, he formed a special team and also engaged the surveillance cell in the job which recovered 80 mobile phone sets later. “Our purpose was to recover the phone sets soon since the stolen cell phones are normally used for committing crimes,” the SP said adding the move would repose the faith of the common men in the police department.
He said such action would continue in future too.Earlier on May 2, the Buxur police had returned 61 stolen/looted mobile phones to the people while in March this year, the Samastipur police recovered 53 cell phones and returned them to their owners.
