Coimbatore: Two men were booked for verbally abusing a special sub-inspector (SSI) of police and preventing him from discharging his duty.
The accused were identified as E Jothi Ragavan, 23, of Mylampatti and S Sabareesh, 23, of Thottani Chatram, both natives of Erode district.
Police said Jothi Ragavan was a first-year MBA student of a private college in the city. He was staying in a rented room at Poongothai Nagar near SITRA. Sabareesh, who stays at Balaji Nagar, had completed BCom from the same college last year and was looking for a job.
Around 1am on Tuesday, SSI Senthilkumar and head constable Venugopal were conducting a vehicle check at SITRA junction. They noticed two men riding a motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner. When they stopped the duo, they attempted to assault the SSI and verbally abused him.
The SSI alerted the modern control room and an inspector reached the spot and took the duo to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital to check whether they were drunk.
Based on the doctor’s certificate and the SSI’s complaint, the Peelamedu police registered a case against the duo under sections 294 (b) and 353 of the Indian Penal Code. They were, however, let off on station bail.
